Taxonomic / nomenclatural notes: • Described from preserved material only, requires re-investigation!
• The original spelling Synchaeta jollyi is incorrect. As a noun in the genitive case, the personal (female) name requires an ending of -ae (ICZN Art. 31.1.) (named after the late Dr Violet Hilary Jolly). • Wilke et al. (2018) [Ref.27328] could not find any robust characters that distinguish between S. jollyae and S. stylata, and therefore called the taxonomic validity of S. jollyae into question: "We therefore recommend that a thorough re-examination of the taxonomic status of S. jollyae should be performed based on the sampling of live, unpreserved topotypes from the type locality of this species" |
