Lecane: Lecanidae: Ploima: Pseudotrocha: Monogononta: Eurotatoria
Taxonomic / nomenclatural notes:
• (?) Lecane scutata (Harring & Myers) after Pejler (1962) [Ref.11691].
not Monostyla lunaris (Ehrenberg) after Perty (1952, partim: pl.1,fig.4A,B) [Ref.16645], Weber (1898) [=Lecane bulla (Gosse)?]; Arevalo (1918) [Ref.17835] [=L. punctata (Murray)?]; not L. lunaris (Ehrenberg) after Brandorff et al. (1982) [Ref.17056] [=L. bulla (Gosse)]; ?not Monostyla lunaris (Ehrenberg) after Pax & Wulfert (1942) [Ref.17475] [=Lecane perplexa (Ahlstrom)?]; Donner (1964, part.: fig.31d) [Ref.17186] [=Lecane crenata Harring]; Donner (1964, part.: fig.31e) [Ref.17186] [=Lecane acus Harring]; Wang (1961) [Ref.18125] [=Lecane acus Harring?].
• First listed, without any descriptive information to satisfy the criteria of availability, as "Monostyla ? lunaris n. sp." (p.84) and as "MONOSTYLA ? lunaris n. G." (p.90) by Ehrenberg (1830) [Ref.17209].
• Highly variable morphospecies that probably represents a complex of cryptic species with narrower geographic ranges and/or ecological tolerances!

Eurytopic in stagnant and running freshwater, common in peat bogs and marshes; occasionally in athalassic saline and coastal brackish waters; eurythermic, euryhaline, pH-tolerant (Jersabek & Bolortsetseg, 2010) [Ref.18457]. NB: Ecology and distribution pattern probably blurred by cryptic speciation!
