Scaridium longicauda (Müller, 1786)
Valid Name:

Parent taxa:             Genus / Family / Order / Superorder / Subclass / Class
Scaridium: Scaridiidae: Ploima: Pseudotrocha: Monogononta: Eurotatoria
Taxonomic / nomenclatural notes:
• Type species of genus Scaridium Ehrenberg, 1830.
• Scaridium bostjani Daems & Dumont after Dartnall & Hollowday (1985) [Ref.17116].
not S. longicauda (Müller) after Manfredi (1927) [Ref.17408] [=Scaridium montanum Segers?]; Sharma (1979) [Ref.11167] [=Beauchampiella eudactylota (Gosse)?].
• when transferred from genus Trichoda to genus Scaridium, the orginial spelling 'longicauda' has incorrectly been changed to 'longicaudum' to agree in gender with the (neuter) genus Scaridium. The species name, however, is a noun phrase which includes the latin noun cauda (= tail; referring to the long, tail-like foot and toes) and as such is an indeclinable. It has to remain 'longicauda', regardless of the gender of the genus with which it is combined.
